Description. Detailed descriptions of the imago can be found in Tishechkin (1999, 2002b) and Li et al. (2012b). The nymph is similar in body shape to the previous species, greenish with brown markings and speckles; teeth of abdominal dorsal crest more narrow than in M. jozankeana ; body covered with whitish surface setae (Fig. 21).
Host. Quercus mongolica and Q. dentata in the Russian Far East.
Material examined. Russian Far East (Amur Area, Southern and Central Russian Maritime Territory, Kunashir Island), Japan (Honshu) ( ZMMU); Japan, Honshu and Kyushu (BM), China: 1 ♂, 1 ♀, Guizhou Province, Daozhen County, Dashahe, 1500 m above sea level, 29–31. V. 2004, collected by Xu Pian ( GUGC); 1 ♀, Ningxia Province, Liupanshan, 2050 m above sea level, 28–29. VII. 2008, collected by Song Qiongzhang ( GUGC); 1 ♂, 4 ♀♀, Ningxia Province, Liupanshan, Longtan, 2100 m above sea level, 28–29. VII. 2009, collected by Yang Zaihua ( GUGC); 7 ♀♀, Guizhou Province, Kuankuoshui Nature Reserve, 4. VI. 2010, collected by Dai Renhuai & Li Hu ( GUGC); 1 ♀, Henan Province, Funiu Mountains Nature Reserve, 2. VIII. 2010, collected by Li Hu & Fan Zhihua ( GUGC); 1 ♂, Guangxi Province, Wuming County, Damingshan Nature Reserve, 15. V. 2011, collected by Yu Xiaofei ( GUGC).
Distribution. China (Guizhou, Henan Provs., Ningxia, Guangxi Aut. Regs. and Taiwan Island), Russian Far East (Amur Area, Maritime Province, Southern Kurile Islands: Kunashir), Japan.
Remarks. This species differs from the partially sympatric M. jozankeana ( Matsumura, 1912) in the following characters: background coloration (Figs. 5–6) pale brown or ochraceous in M. matsumurana and bright green with yellow tinge in M. jozankeana , the number of preapical teeth on 2nd valvulae 3–5 in M. jozankeana and 5–7 in M. matsumurana (Fig. 41), nymph of the former species almost lacks surface setae in contrast to the latter one. Interpretation of M. matsumurana is accepted after Tishechkin (1999, 2002b). In this species, as in M. jozankeana , only nymphs and females were found in populations from the Russian Maritime Territory. However, in the Amur Area, as well as in China, both sexes are present.
