Type material
Holotype male (BDN No.13310), CHINA: Sichuan Province, Xiangcheng County, Shuoquhe Rive, 2700 m, 12.VI.1996, light trap, X. H. Wang. Paratypes: 2 males (BDN No.09829, 09839) Yunnan Province, Eryuan County, Niujie Township, Futianlin, Meicihe, 2332 m, 23.V.1996, light trap, C. F. Zhou & B. X. Wang.
Male imago (n = 3)
Dimensions. Total length 2.78–3.38, 3.0 mm. Wing length 2.03–2.43, 2.20 mm. Total length/wing length 1.29–1.40, 1.36. Wing length/length of profemur 2.27–2.55 2.40.
Coloration. Head brown. Ground color of thorax brown, darker brown pigmentation confined to narrow band on anteanepisternum II along anapleural suture, basal 1/2 of preepisternum, 1/4 of median anepisternum II, 4 areas of scutum and anterior border of postnotum ( Fig 19 View FIGURES 19 – 22 ). Ground color of abdomen pale brown; tergites II–VII each with brown rounded marking in middle and additional dark stripe along lateral margins; tergite VIII brown on basal 4/5 ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19 – 22 ). Hypopygium pale brown. Legs pale with narrow brown ring at apex of femora. Wings with 3 distinct pigmented areas, 1 at humeral vein, 1 around crossveins r–m and mcu and other at junction of R1 with costa ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19 – 22 ).
Head. AR 1.30–1.73, 1.55. Temporal setae 14–18, 17; including 10–14, 13 verticals and 4 postorbitals. Clypeus with 21–28, 24 setae. Tentorium 143–163, 152 µm long, 28–48, 38 µm wide. Palpomere 1–5 lengths (µm): 30–60, 48; 80–100, 89; 130–143, 137; 180–190, 183; 283–300, 291.
Wing ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19 – 22 ). VR 0.90–0.93, 0.92. Brachiolum with 2–3, 2 long setae. Squama with 28–30, 29 setae.
Thorax. Antepronotal setae 4; dorsocentrals 28–30, 29; acrostichals 16–20, 18; prescutellars 2; supraalars 2; prealars 9–14, 12; scutellars 12–20, 17.
Legs. Spur on fore tibia 38–48, 42 µm long with 6 lateral teeth. Spurs on mid tibia 45–48, 46 and 48–65, 56 µm long with 6 lateral teeth. Spurs on hind tibia 43–50, 46 and 75–80, 78 µm long with 5 and 7 lateral teeth respectively. Tibial comb on hind leg with 7 setae. Lengths (µm) and proportions of legs as in Table 5 View TABLE 5 .
Hypopygium ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 19 – 22 ). Tergite IX with irregular slightly concave row of 10–14, 12 setae. Gonocoxite 178–215 193 µm long. Gonostylus 148–155, 152 µm long. Median volsella 30–45, 38 µm long, 20–48, 36 µm wide. HR 1.20–1.39, 1.27. HV 1.79–2.21, 1.97.
Diagnosis
This new species differs from other known species of the genus Hayesomyia by the characteristic color pattern of the male abdomen and the wing markings.
