Ocypoda edwardsi Osorio, 1890 , a junior subjective synonym of Ocypode africana De Man, 1881 ( Decapoda : Brachyura: Ocypodidae )

Osorio (1890: 48, 49) described Ocypoda edwardsi from “Ilheo das Rolas” (Ilhéu das Rolas, São Tomé and Príncipe). All subsequent authors have (e.g., Doflein 1904: 127; De Man 1896: 90; Rathbun 1900: 275) considered Ocypoda edwardsi Osorio, 1890 , to be conspecific with Ocypode africana De Man, 1881 . This name was not included as a synonym of Ocypode africana De Man, 1881 , in the West African list of Manning & Holthuis (1981: 218, 219) and the world checklist of Ng et al. (2008: 240).
