99. Poecilobothrus nobilitatus (Linnaeus, 1767) (Dolichopodinae) View in CoL — new to Portugal

( Fig. 5D View FIGURE 5 )

Number of specimens recorded. 20.

Distribution. Europe. Portugal: one province (Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro).

Ecology. The only site where P. nobilitatus has been encountered in Portugal was a permanent pasture (Lameiro) crossed by a small stream, with Populus sp. , Salix sp. and Rubus sp. among others on its banks and a Quercus pyrenaica dominated forest higher up the slopes. In northwestern Europe, this is a very eurytopic species that can be found in huge numbers on and near shallow water bodies in both wooded and open biotopes, where the males display conspicuous courtship behaviour ( Lunau 1992).

Rarity (%). 1.1 (very rare). Very common (FL).

Activity period. August–September.
