23. Campsicnemus umbripennis Loew, 1856 (Sympycninae) View in CoL — new to Portugal
( Figs 2L View FIGURE 2 , 7C View FIGURE 7 )
Number of specimens recorded. 295.
Distribution. Europe, excl. northern Europe. Portugal: eight provinces.
Ecology. In Portugal, the species seems to have a distinct preference for mountainous habitats, open shortgrazed habitats and, to a slightly less extent, forests. In these habitat types, highest abundances were mostly encountered near seepages, waterfalls and/or on banks of streams. This corresponds largely with its habitat affinity in the rest of Europe where it is mostly found in open, very wet sites, with highest abundances at higher altitudes.
Rarity (%). 31.0 (common).
Activity period. March–November.
