Revised diagnosis for the genus (adapted from Pinder & Reiss (1983), Borkent (1984), Pinder & Reiss (1986), Cranston et al. (1989)). Male: antepronotum reduced, scutum anteriorly projecting; tibial spurs fused; appendage 2 elongate with setae arranged along dorsal margin. Female: reduced antepronotum, scutum anteriorly projecting; tibial spurs fused. Pupa: respiratory organ with many branches and a non-bifurcating, robust, spinose horn; with or without spicules on abdominal T VII and VIII but, if present, spur on S VIII yellowish brown; pedes spurii B presente or absent. Fourth instar larva: head capsule dorsoventrally flattened; mandible with 2 ventral teeth, without seta interna; concave mentum with 10-12 teeth, lateral tooth dorsolateral to penultimate tooth; ventromental plates reduced.
