Type genus: Amblycercus Cabanis, 1851 View in CoL .
Diagnosis. Wing more rounded than in any other icterid: outer primary (p9)> 20 mm shorter than p6, numbered outwards (<15 mm in similar sized, short-winged species of Cacicus ); primary extension typically <5 mm (> 10 mm in same species of Cacicus ). Culmen absolutely straight and nares covered or partially covered by operculum (contra Ridgway 1902). Pneumotricipital fossa of humerus of condition “F” or “DT”, as defined by Webster (2003), unlike its form in species of Cacicus or Psarocolius . Retroarticular process of the mandible proportionally longer than in other icterids (Webster 2003). According to Webster (2003), A. holosericeus has the relatively smallest pseudotemporal process in the family, but the data in his tables do not support this, possibly due to typographical errors.
