africana Neiva, 1911a: 239 ; Triatoma
( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1–4 )
Current status: subjective junior synonym of Panstrongylus megistus ( Burmeister, 1835: 246) ; synonymized by Lent (1960: 164).
HOLOTYPE ( Figs. 1–3 View FIGURES 1–4 ) male with labels ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–4 ): “Typus” [red, pr] // “Africa tropical / Emin Pascha” [blue, hw] // “ Triatoma africana . / A. Neiva ” [hw] // “ Panstrongylus megistus / (Burm., 1835) / Rótulo trocado? / 2-959 [hw] H. Lent det. [pr]”
Remarks. Lent (1960: 163) suggested a possible exchange of locality labels. According to the author, the genus Panstrongylus is typically Neotropical and, therefore, should not have been collected in tropical Africa. Lent also added this information to a label: “ Panstrongylus megistus / (Burm., 1835) / Rótulo trocado? / 2-959 H. Lent det.”.
