Etymology. THE SPEcIES WAS NAMED AfTER THE BRAZILIAN NAME fOR THE NORTHEASTERN SEMIARID VEGETATION. CAATINGA IS AN INDIGENOUS WORD THAT MEANS “WHITE fOREST”, DUE TO THE WHITISH cOLOR Of THE XEROMORPHIc VEGETATION, DOMINANT IN THE TYPE LOcALITY.

Distribution and habitat. THE SPEcIMENS WERE cOLLEcTED DURING THE BEGINNING Of THE RAINY SEASON IN A SEMIARID CAATINGA DOMAIN, LOcATED IN STATE Of PARAIBA, NORTHEASTERN BRAZIL (06°58' 27.7' 'S/34° 27' 32.2' ' W) GOOD’S BIOGEOGRAPHIc ZONE 27 ( GOOD1974).

Remarks. D. caatingae sp. nov., D. bretfeldi AND D. diomedesi SHARE THE PRESENcE Of A NASAL ORGAN IN THE MIDDLE LINE Of HEAD WITH fOUR cILIATE SETAE INSERTED IN A SINGLE BIG ALVEOLUS, BUT D. caatingae sp. nov. LAcKS THE TWO SPINEfORM SETAE IN SUcH ORGAN, WHIcH ARE PRESENT IN THE OTHER TWO SPEcIES. SETA B7 ON ANT. II AND C1 ON ANT. III Of THE NEW SPEcIES ARE IN THE SHAPE Of WIDE LAMELLA, MUcH DIffERENT fROM OTHERS. IN D. diomedesi THE POLYcARINATE SETA ON TIBIOTARSUS II IS LOcATED cLOSE TO A SPINE SETA, WHIcH IS ABSENT IN D. caatingae sp. nov. BUT BOTH SPEcIES HAVE A TIBIOTARSUS II WIDER THAN TIBIOTARSUS I AND III. D. bretfeldi HAS NO SERRATE SETAE IN THE TIBIOTARSUS III, WHILE THE D. caatinagae sp. nov. HAS fOUR SERRATE SETAE ( TABLE 1).
