Cernuella Schlüter, 1838: 6 View in CoL . Type species (designated by Gude & Woodward, 1921: 182): Helix variabilis Draparnaud, 1801 (= Cochlea virgata Da Costa, 1778 ).

Diagnosis: Cernuella is characterized by a dart sac and a well-developed accessory sac. On the inside, the dart apparatus forms a conical structure that protrudes into the vagina and the atrium. The inner structure of the genitalia has been described in detail by Hausdorf (1988) and Manganelli & Giusti (1988). The penis is innervated from the right pedal ganglion.
