scientific name

Parnassia asarifolia Ventenat (1804: 39)
status

Parnassia asarifolia Ventenat (1804: 39) View in CoL

TYPE:—THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Ventenat s.n. (holotype: G 00341552)

= Parnassia nudata Rafinesque (1840: 41) View in CoL

TYPE:—THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Carolina, Mt. Unaka. (type: not located, presumably destroyed, annotated by Phillips 1982)

Notes:Rafinesque described six new names, P.palustris var. parvifolia Rafinesque (1840:41) , P.rotundifolia Rafinesque (1840: 41) , P. grandiflora Rafinesque (1840: 41) , P. glauca Rafinesque (1840: 42) , P. repanda Rafinesque (1840: 42) , and P. nudata . Among these, only P. glauca is an accepted name now, while the others have been synonymized, and Phillips (1982) thought that the type materials of Rafinesque were presumably destroyed. We also traced no type materials of these names, thus no lectotypes or neotypes are designated here, and they will be better effected when this genus is revised.
