Type: — INDONESIA. West Java: Salak, Pantjar, Meggamedung, etc., Blume s.n. (holotype BO, fide Wood & Cribb 1994).
Ecology and phenology in Vietnam: —Clustering epiphyte and lithophyte. Primary and old secondary humid evergreen broad-leaved lowland forests on granite at elevations of 0–600 m a.s.l. Locally common. Flowers in October–November.
Distribution: — Vietnam: Kien Giang Province (Phu Quoc Island). Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi, Lesser Sunda Islands, the Philippines.
Conservation status in Vietnam: —This species is known in the country in the lowland forests of Phu Quoc Island, with a total forest area of much less than 500 km 2. The ongoing broadscale development of tourism throughout the island surely leads to fragmentation of the species populations and a decline of the extent of occurrence, area of occupancy, quality of habitats, number of subpopulations, and number of mature individuals. Accordingly, we estimate the national conservation status of the species as Endangered (EN) following the criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v)+B2ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v). In numerous areas outside Vietnam, the species is very common ( Seidenfaden 1986b, Gale 2022), which implies the Least Concern (LC) conservation status.
Notes: — Podochilus lucescens is reported here as a new record for the flora of Vietnam. This species shows broad distribution in Malesia and in mainland Southeast Asia. It was observed to be common in numerous locations in southern Thailand and Cambodia ( Seidenfaden 1986b, Schuiteman et al. 2015, Gale 2022). Hence, its discovery on Phu Quoc Island, near the Cambodian border, was highly expected. At the same time, there are no records of this species in mainland Vietnam.
