This genus is distributed in Asia from India to the Philippines ( Polhemus & Andersen 1984, Zettel et al. 2007) and was revised by Polhemus and Andersen (1984) with a key for 23 species requiring male specimens. Later, 11 more species were described from Southeast Asia ( Zettel 1995, 1998, 2002; Zettel & Chen 1996, 1997; Zettel et al. 2007). Including two species reported here from Thailand for the first time, the Thai fauna contains 15 known species of Amemboa , more than that of any other country in Indochina (Zettel 1996, Chen & Zettel 1998a, Zettel 2002, Vitheepradit 2008). Mostly, members of this genus in Thailand are found resting at the margins of rock pools, puddles, and streams. Moreover, they are one of few gerromorphans that are found in temporary mud puddles in Thailand. When they are pursued, they usually jump further onto the water surface to escape ( Polhemus & Andersen 1984). The genus is represented by two subgenera, Amemboa and Amemboides ( Polhemus & Andersen 1984). Members of the subgenus Amemboa have the first segment of the middle tarsus about twice as long as the second segment, whereas members of subgenus Amemboides have the first segment distinctly less than twice as long as the second segment ( Polhemus & Andersen 1984). Six species of the subgenus Amemboa and two species of the subgenus Amemboides were collected in the Phetchabun Mountains. Diagnoses are provided for comparisons among males only within each subgenus. Amemboa incurvata Polhemus & Andersen and A. laotica Zettel are reported from Thailand for the first time.
