Diagnosis ( Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 C, D). Everted penes long, extending to abdominal segment two or three. Rigid basal portions short, each with a single subconical medial projection. Rigid basal portion of penes without a distomedial patch of spines. Everted penes with a single longitudinal, basomedial row of large papilliform spines, and four or six distal longitudinal rows of smaller spines. Brood pouch pyriform. Male bearing an “antennalike” appendage near base of first antennae. Male with frontal appendage. Male second antennae attached anterioventrally to head, slightly coalesced at base, otherwise free. Second antennal distal segment arcuate. Female second antennae lamellar, apices truncate or slightly acute. Resting eggs angular, with few shallow, subcircular impressions separated by large angular ridges.
Two subgenera are recognized.
