Genus Scolytus Geoffroy, 1762 View in CoL
Scolytus species are distinguished by the following morphological characters: body length: 1.5–7 mm; anterior margin of compound eye sinuate to slightly emarginate; scape shorter than seven-segmented funicle, club large, oval usually pubescent, sutures medially bowed in acute angle; pronotum large, anteriorly constricted; posterior and lateral margins sharply bordered; scutellum large; declivity absent (elytra posteriorly flat); abdomen rising posteriorly from 2 nd ventrite towards apex; procoxae contiguous; tibiae smooth produced distally into a long curved spine; sexual dimorphism based on shape of head and setae, abdominal process; host: deciduous trees, one species on conifer.
A key to the species of Scolytus Geoffroy, 1762 has been already provided by Mandelshtam & Petrov (2010a), which includes all the Indian species of the genus.
