TYPE SPECIES.— Cicada maculipennis de Laporte 1832: 412 . ( French Guiana and Brazil)
REMARKS.—The bright green basal area of the fore wings and bright red on the basal area of the hind wings distinguish species of the genus Hemisciera from all other Fidicinini .
DISTRIBUTION.—The genus has been recorded from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, French Guiana, Panama, and Peru ( Metcalf 1963a; Sanborn 2011a; 2013; 2018c; 2019b; 2020b; Sanborn & Heath 2014).
