g. Rubus inedulis Rolfe View in CoL in Stapf et al. (1906: 514).
Lectotype (designated here):— UGANDA. Buddu , 1904, Brown 133 ( K000312542 [http://apps.kew.org/herbcat/getImage.do?imageBarcode=K000312542])
Note: —The species has similarities to R. quartinianus , but the inflorescences are larger and more compound; they are open, not as dense as with other species of this group, and only short hairy. The fruits are diseased, with swollen sponge like ovaries. Rolfe in Stapf et al. (1906) supposes this is characteristic for the taxon. However, specimens of other taxa of this series display the same disease (e.g. R. cryptopetalus A.Beek : SOUTH AFRICA, Pilgrimsrest District, Mariepskop, 1400 m, 12 January 1964, Bos 1081 (PRE); R. exsuccus Steud. ex Richard : TANGANYIKA, Njombe District, Valley below Milo Mission, 1800 m, 30 January 1961, Richards 14053 (P02550730).
