Range:— West Indies; southern Mexico to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC), Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina.
Ecology:— Fairly common; terrestrial in humid forests, especially along river and stream margins, on clay banks, and on wet boulders; 600–2000 m.
Notes:— The terminal pinnae often have subcordate bases and/or 1 or 2 semicircular proximal lobes. Possibly hybridizes with Blechnum occidentale and B. appendiculatum .
