(®gures 3, 6, 15, 16)
Description
Male. Body length: 6.1±12.1 mm.
Colour. Anteclpeus, labrum, antennae, peduncles of femora reddish brown; frons, vertex, disc of pronotum, legs (except of peduncles of femora) dark reddish brown; remaining parts dark reddish brown to blackish brown. Elytra with a wide, slightly raised whitish yellow ivory fascia, wide at external margin and narrow at suture, covering between basal 0.9/10±1.3/10 and apical 3/10± 4.1/10; the fascia transversely divided by a zigzag, dark, usually incomplete band; a fairly large whitish subround spot on disc before apex, the spot slightly pointed forward (®gure 6).
Head. Distinctly narrower than prothorax; frons and vertex with dense, fairly large and subround punctures and fairly dense golden-pale depressed hairs; a few long erect hairs at lateral sides of frons and vertex. No carinae between antennal tubercles; distance between lower lobes of eyes distinctly less than twice distance between antennal socket and lateral angle of post clypeus, and more than 1.5 times but less than twice distance between upper lobes of eyes. Antennae distinctly longer than body; segments 3±7 with fairly large and long apical spines; segment 3 more than ®ve times but less than seven times length of its apical spine, and longer than scape, segments 4 or 5; scape not grooved above.
Thorax and abdomen. Prothorax as long as or slightly longer than wide. Pronotum fairly rugged, with ®ve distinctly raised and two slightly raised nodules on disc: one at centre, long-oval, smooth and nitid; anterior pair just before middle, of irregular form, smooth and nitid; medial pair just behind middle, very small, arranged longitudinally, rugged or slightly smooth, un-nitid or subnitid; posterior pair at sub-base, large, subround, rugged or slightly smooth, un-nitid or subopaque; the interspace of nodules rugged or opaque with fairly dense punctures, each producing a long whitish erect hair, and with dense golden-pale depressed hairs; very prominent but rounded tubercles at lateral sides. Scutellum sutriangular with dense golden-pale depressed hairs on disc. Metasternum with dense punctures and depressed hairs. Elytra subparallel, nitid to subnitid, three times as long as or slightly less than three times length of prothorax; apex subtruncate with a small tooth or spine at marginal angle; basal half of disc with dense, large and deep punctures, about one-quarter of the punctures producing long, whitish erect hairs; apical half of disc with dense punctures, about three-quarters of the punctures small and shallow, producing fairly long whitish depressed hairs and the remaining punctures small but deep, producing long whitish erect hairs. Abdomen with fairly sparse punctures, each producing a fairly long pale erect hairs and with sparse depressed hairs.
Male terminalia. Apex of median lobe pointed. Unspined region of internal sac about 1.3 times as long as spined region; spined divided two sections: ®rst section absent; second section slightly wider than third section, with dense simple large and long spines and sparse multi-branched spines; third section about three times as long as second section, with dense simple large and long spines and sparse basally forked spines and multi-branched spines (®gure 15). Eighth sternite rounded at sides; setae absent in mid-terminal area; cloud-like processes on ventral surface. Apex of eighth tergite distinctly processed.
Female. Body length: 8.9±12 mm.
Antennae slightly longer than body.
Ovipositor. As in ®gure 16.
Variation
The dark band transversely dividing the ivory fascia of the elytra may vary from complete to vague. The ivory spot on disc before elytral apex varies from small and subround to large and of irregular form.
Biology Hosts unknown. Adults were collected at light during October to December.
Distribution
Northern Queensland, northern Northern Territory and north-eastern Western Australia (®gure 3).
Comments
This new species resembles A. discreta (Pascoe) but diOEers in having the antennal segments 3±7 with fairly large and long apical spines; apical half of the elytral disc with dense long whitish depressed hairs.
