Type species: Galliphilopsis francolinus Skoracki and Sikora, 2004 by original designation.
Diagnosis. FEMALE. Small sized mites (total body length 400–550). Gnathosoma . Hypostomal apex without protuberances. Two pairs of hypostomal lips present. Lateral hypostomal teeth absent. Peritremes M-shaped, each branch with clearly visible chambers. Movable cheliceral digit edentate. Stylophore constricted posteriorly. Idiosoma . All idiosomal setae smooth. Five pairs of propodonotal setae present (vi —absent), arranged 1–1–1–2. Propodonotal shield entire, without pocket-like structures, bearing bases of setae ve, si, se and c1. Hysteronotal shield variable, weakly sclerotized or absent. Hysteronotal setae variable in length. Pygidial shield present or absent. Setae h2 long, setae f1, f2 and h1 short. Two pairs of pseudanal and 2 pairs of genital setae present. Aggenital series with 3 pairs of setae. Legs. Legs I–IV subequal in thickness. Apodemes I slightly divergent not fused to apodemes II, both apodemes different in size and shape. Antaxial and paraxial members of claw pair subequal in size and shape, basal angles absent. Leg setae dGII and dTIII–IV absent. Apodemes I slightly divergent anteriorly, not fused to apodemes II.
MALE. Unknown.
Host range. Mites of this genus are associated with galliform birds of the family Phasianidae ( Table 21).
Habitat. Quills of covert feathers.
Species included. This genus includes 3 species distributed in the Ethiopian and Palaearctic regions. The Palaearctic fauna is represented by two species: G. bochkovi and G. lophurus .
