Diagnosis. This species belongs to the Neotrichia collata Species Group of Marshal (1979). The male of Neotrichia capitiana sp. nov. is similar to that of Neotrichia hiaspa Mosely 1937 , resembling this species mainly by the inferior appendages each with a small basal knob, visible in ventral view, and the phallic apex is short and stout with its tip produced in a pair of dorsally curved, sclerotized hooks, but the new species differs by having segment X, in lateral view, large, membranous and truncate apically (reduced, tapered to an acute apex in N. hiaspa ); and the inferior appendages are not bifid (bifid in N. hiaspa ).
Description. Male (in alcohol): Dark brown species with length of each forewing 1.3 mm (holotype). Postoc- cipital setal warts pronounced, large, ovoid. Antennae 18-articulated; scape normal, cylindrical, slightly longer than pedicel; flagellomeres of pedicel size, long and cylindrical. Maxillary palp formula I-II-IV-III-V (shortest to longest), first two articles extremely short, shorter than wide. Mesoscutellum anterior margin convex; metascutellum convexly subtriangular. Sternum VII without apicomesal process.
Male genitalia. Segment IX, in lateral view, arising from within segment VIII, anterior margins each long and tapered to acute anterior tip; posterior margins truncate and membranous. Segment X, in lateral view, fused with dorsum of segment IX, large and membranous, with truncate apex; in dorsal view, bifid. Subgenital plate, in lateral view, developed as thin and long plate with short ventral beak; in dorsal and ventral views, long, excised apically, armed with pair of long stout setae on apices of lateral lobes. Inferior appendages, in lateral view, long and tapered to acute apices; in ventral view, each long, with sub-basomesal protuberance; small knob with single, apical seta on basal inner margin, visible in ventral view. Bracteoles, in lateral view, setose and spatulate; in dorsal and ventral views, oblong and rounded apically. Phallus long with strong preapical constriction and enlarged apex short with two apical, robust, strongly sclerotized points fused basally and hooked posteroventrad; paramere slender, encircling constriction, and extending posterodorsad on right side; ejaculatory duct short, protruding apicomesally.
Female, larva, pupa, and egg. Unknown.
Holotype male. BRAZIL: Roraima: Mucajai municipality, RR-325, Vicinal 9, Apiau (Sítio Sr. Nonato), small order stream, 2º31’00.78’’N / 61º21’44.28’’W, 104 m a.s.l., 29 Nov. 2017, Pennsylvania light trap, J.L. Gama Neto, leg. (alcohol; MPEG). GoogleMaps
Distribution: Brazil (Roraima, type locality only).
Etymology. The epithet “capitiana”, a noun used in apposition, refers to the popular word used by the inhabitants of Roraima to designate a steer-leather hammock used on a farm for a rapid rest.
