Neotrichia macuxi sp. nov.
Figures: 8A–8D
Diagnosis. This species belongs to the Neotrichia esmalda Species Group of Keth (2002). The male of Neotrichia macuxi sp. nov. is similar to that of Neotrichia makunaima sp. nov., resembling this species mainly by segment X in lateral view with a spike-like apex projecting ventrad and the phallus apex with a long and apically sinuous process. However, in this new species, segment X has its posterior margin membranous and quadrate (bifid in Neotrichia makunaima sp. nov.). Additionally, in this new species, the apex of segment X, in lateral view, is tooth-like, while in Neotrichia makunaima sp. nov. the apex of the segment X in lateral view is hooked and slender.
Description. Male (in alcohol): Dark brown species with length of each forewing 1.4 mm (holotype). Postoccipital setal warts pronounced, large, ovoid. Antennae each with 18 articles; scape normal, cylindrical, slightly longer than pedicel; flagellomeres of pedicel size, long, cylindrical. Maxillary palp formula I-II-IV-III-V (shortest to longest), first two articles extremely short, shorter than wide. Mesoscutellum anterior margin convex; metascutellum convexly subtriangular. Sternum VII without apicomesal process.
Male genitalia. Segment IX anterolateral margins tapered, withdrawn into segment VIII; posteromesal margin slightly produced, with membranous and oblong process bearing long posterior seta. Segment X fused with segment IX, bearing minute dorsal setae; in lateral view, with sclerotized apical tooth projecting ventrad; in dorsal view, membranous and quadrate. Subgenital plate, in lateral view, with broad beak directed ventrad; in ventral view, mesally incised, bearing two apical setae. Inferior appendages, in lateral view, long and tapered to acute setose apices; in ventral view, long and slightly curved mesad for 3/4 length, each with long seta on mesal margin at mid-length. Bracteoles, in lateral view, long and broad, bearing several short, spine-like setae on the dorsal margins; in dorsal and ventral views, oblong and rounded apically. Phallus long with slight median constriction, round, slender, and posteriorly extending paramere; phallic apex long and tubular, membranous tip, long process arising after basal 1/3, darkening and tapering toward sinuous apex; ejaculatory duct long, apically protruding.
Female, larva, pupa, and egg. Unknown.
Holotype male. BRAZIL: Roraima: Mucajai municipality, RR-325, Vicinal Apiaú, Igarapé Serrinha (Sítio Vaca), 02°33’7.78”N / 61°18’45.06”W, 74 m a.s.l, 13 Dec. 2017, Pennsylvania light trap, J.L. Gama Neto, leg. (alcohol; MPEG). GoogleMaps
Paratype. 4 males, same data as holotype (alcohol; INPA) GoogleMaps .
Distribution: Brazil (Roraima, type locality only).
Etymology. The epithet “macuxi”, a noun used in apposition, from the word Makuxi in Karib language, is a nickname used by the inhabitants of Roraima for anyone born in this state.
