Type locality: Portugal.
Distribution: Western Europe ( Germany, France, Corsica, Switzerland), Central Europe (Carpates up to Caucasus), North Africa ( Algeria, Morocco, Egypt) ( Bellmann and Luquet 1995, Coray 2003, Fontana et al. 2002).
Biogeographic zones: Shoreline, Tellian Atlas, High Plateaux.
Bioclimatic zones: Humid, subhumid, semiarid, saharian.
Records in Algeria: Nemours [35°6’N 1°51’W] ( Finot 1896, as Phaneroptera quadripunctata Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878). Sidi Ferruch [Sidi fredj] [36°46'N 2°51'E]; Boufarik [36°34'N 2°55'E]; Frenda [35°3'N 1°2'E]; Maison Blanche [Dar el Beida] [36°42'N 3°12'E]; Sainte-Croix de l'Edough [Fedj El Maâden] [36°54'N 7°40'E] ( Chopard 1943, as P. quadripunctata ).
