Coenosia hippelates ( Emden, 1940: 183)

Holotype. Type male seen; in good condition.

Diagnosis. Large species (5.3 mm), brown with grey pollinosity; scutum with a pair of broad brown vittae; frons velvety black, as wide as an eye; arista with hairs of medium length, longer on dorsal surface; scutellum with the basal seta a little shorter than the apical one; haltere yellow; anterior katepisternal very weak and the posterior one very long; katepisternum with many fine hairs; coxae grey pollinose; femora brown; trochanters and tibiae yellow; legs long; pulvilli and claws well-developed; male with the base of veins R4+5 and M a little enlarged and darkened; hind tibia with a strong curved spur on ventral surface; hind tibia and tarsus with dense curled hairs; sternite 5 as in Fig. 86 .

Male terminalia. Cercal plate and surstylus as in Fig. 87 . Aedeagal complex as in Fig. 88 .

Notes. This species and two other species belong to the small tigrina group (see note under C. cubitalis ). One male (not a paratype) was dissected and illustrated.
