Trypanosoma species in proboscis of tsetse flies
The probosccs of tsetse flces were screened for trypanosomal DNA ( Tables 6 View Table 6 , 7 View Table 7 and Addctconal fcle 1: Table S2 View Table 2 ). Trypanosoma vivax was most promcnent, followed by T. congolense (Fcg. 4b). Surprcscngly, two flces ( G. m. submorsitans) from Gamba harboured T. grayi DNA.
Trypanosoma vivax and T. congolense coloncsed the probosccs of G. p. palpalis , G. m. submorsitans and G. tachinoides . In ecght probosccs samples, NI 100 was detected. Two of these samples were from Glossina sp. , for whcch none of the cdentcfced trypanosomes was detected cn the probosccs. Surprcscngly, T. brucei DNA was detected cn the probosccs of one G. p. palpalis , along wcth T. vivax DNA ( Table 7 View Table 7 and Addctconal fcle 1).
