Discussion. Macedna Karsch, 1891 is a monotypic genus and was originally described based on a male specimen from Sumatra ( Karsch, 1891). Later, Dohrn (1906) noted that from the male and female Macedna martini Karsch, 1891 specimens from his own collection in Sumatra, the female agreed with the original description of Elimaea marmorata Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878. This would imply that Macedna is not a valid genus and M. martini is a junior synonym of E. marmorata . However, the original description of E. marmorata is without forelegs and thus without tympana on the fore tibiae. Without this important diagnostic character of Elimaeini , identification remained doubtful. Since then, while Elimaeini in Southeast Asia is continuously being reviewed and new species and subgenera described ( Ingrisch, 1998, 2011; Gorochov, 2009, 2013), there was no new material of M. martini to verify its status. Here, examination of new material from Singapore showed that while the female of Macedna martini may resemble E. marmorata , the genus remains distinct from the tribe Elimaeini and is thus reasonable to conserve Macedna as a valid genus.

Diagnosis. The genus is similar to Elimaeini by general appearance, tegmen with radius vein, radius sector and median vein running parallel with cross veins regularly arranged and perpendicular to the main veins; but differ by fastigium verticis not forming a right angle with fastigium frontis; tibial tympana open and oval for both external and internal sides ( Elimaeini with tympana covered by conchate fold with anterior slit on both sides or on internal side; never with both open and oval).
