Zulpha perlaria View in CoL . Liu & Yin, 2004: 95; Kang, Liu & Liu. 2014: 452. (erroneous identification)

Type Material.

Holotype: 1 ³, Vietnam: Thanh Hóa; 250–300m; 2019-VI. ( IZCAS ).

Paratypes: 1 ♀, China: Guangxi, Guilin-Mao’er shan Mt.; 500m; 2007-VI-13; Chun-Xiang Liu leg. ( IZCAS).

Description. Male (Holotype).

Large-sized. Head long ovoid, smooth, wider than pronotum. Antennae almost as long as body. Pronotum elongate, slightly broadened caudad. Pronotal disc smooth, flat, without fluctuation, with indistinct transverse sulci. Angle between lateral keel and lateral lobe of pronotum obtuse, nearly 90° ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ). Anterior margin of pronotal disc broadly concave. Metazona elongate, with broadly rounded posterior margin. Ventral and posterior margins of pronotal lateral lobes obtusely triangle.

Anterior femur with 3 indistinct, minute spines near apex on ventro-anterior margin; anterior tibiae with 4–5 sparsely-arranged small spines on ventro-anterior margin; anterior tibiae dorsally nearly flat, with tympanum open on both sides; widened at and gradually constricted below tympana. Mid femur with 3 indistinctly small spines on ventro-anterior margin; mid tibiae with 6 small spines on ventro-anterior margin. Hind femur not surpassing half length of tegmen. Hind femur with 6–7 anterior spines on dorsal margins, and 2 spines near apex on ventro-posterior margin; hind tibiae slender, as longer as hind femur, with 7–8 anterior and 13–15 posterior spines on dorsal margins.

Tegmina long and narrow, knife-shaped, with obliquely truncated apex. Tegminal costal edge with apex angularly narrowed. Stridulatory vein of left tegmen and neighbouring vein clearly thickened ( Fig. 7C View FIGURE 7 ). Stridulatory file of left tegmen similar to Z. perlaria (Westwood) , slim and elongated, nearly straight. Male stridulatory file with length about 4.02 mm, with 47–48 densely arranged teeth ( Fig. 8B View FIGURE 8 ).

Cerci thick, curved, densely hairy, with obtuse granulated apex ( Fig. 6E View FIGURE 6 ).

Female.

Similar to male. Cerci conical, slight incurved, densely hairy. Ovipositor strong, falcate; apical tip, with not obvious blunt teeth on apex of ventral margin ( Fig. 9D View FIGURE 9 ).

Coloration.

Generally brown, with irregular black spots.Antennae brown, with irregular white markings. Hind wings blackish violet, scattered with round rosy spots; venation white, and apical area brown. Legs with dark brown spotted, all the minute spines in legs were black. Cerci yellowish brown, with darkened apex.

Discussion.

The new species is similar to Zulpha perlaria (Westwood) in general appearance, but differs in its larger size and elongate pronotal disc, shape of stridulatory file, and comparatively thick cerci. It is distingished from other congeners by smooth and flat pronotal disc without distinct transverse sulci. Different from Z. perlaria (Westwood) , female ovipositor of this new species possesses blunt teeth on apex of ventral margin.

Etymology.

The new species is named after the ancient Chinese mythology, the god tree RuoMu’s flower, that it is, RuoHua.

Life history.

This species lives at elevation of around 500 meters in subtropical monsoon rainforest. Adults seem to only appear in spring and summer.

Measurements (mm):

length of pronotum: ³ 7.84, ♀ 7.68; height of pronotum: ³ 6.23, ♀ 6.22; length of tegmen: ³ 46.22, ♀ 45.02; width of tegmen: ³ 9.74, ♀ 9.98; length of anterior femur: ³ 6.52, ♀ 6.61; length of posterior femur: ³ 18.75, ♀ 19.60; length of posterior tibiae: ³ 17.35, ♀ 17.75; length ovipositor: 12.10.

Distribution. Vietnam, Thanh Hóa; China, WS-Guangxi.
