Zaglyptogastra vietnamica Long , sp. n.

( Figs 1–13)

Description. Female. body length 17.3 mm, fore wing length 16.5 mm ( Fig. 1).

Head. Antennae incomplete, probably missing apical segment, with 101 segments remaining; third antennal segment 1.5 × fourth; width of face 1.4 × length of face and clypeus combined; malar space 0.9 × as long as mandible width; mandible width as long as hypoclypeal depression; distance between tentorial pits 1.3 × distance between pits and eyes ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); second segment of maxillary palp widened apically, with long setae ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); in dorsal view, length of eye 1.3 × as long as temple; in lateral view, width of eye 1.14 × as long as temple; ocelli small, POL:OD:OOL=7:7:20; distance between front and hind ocelli 0.2 × as long as OOL ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); face with long sparse setae; clypeus with a transverse carina; frons slightly depressed laterally, smooth; vertex and temple smooth, sparsely setose.

Mesosoma. Length of mesosoma 1.7 × as long as high; notauli absent; mesoscutum flat posteriorly; scutellar sulcus narrow, smooth; mesopleuron convex, smooth; metapleuron sparsely punctate, setose; propodeal spiracle subelliptical, 2.3 × as long as wide; propodeum slightly depressed medially, sparsely setose medially but more densely setose laterally ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 2 – 13 )

Wings. Fore wing: pterostigma 3.8 × as long as wide; r:2-SR:3-SR:SR1= 9:21:51:78; vein r arising just anterior of middle of pterostigma; vein cu-a perpendicular, slightly postfurcal ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); second submarginal 2.7 × as long as its apical width. Hind wing: vein M+CU:1-M: 1r-m:SC+R1=18:80:32:21; vein 2-SC+R horizontal ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ).

Legs. Length of hind femur:tibia:basitarsus:tarsus = 60:101:31; length of hind femur, tibia and basitarsus 3.15,10.1 and 5.16 × as long as their maximum width respectively; inner hind tibial spur 0.4 × as long as hind basitarsus; apex of hind tibia with long differentiated setae ventrally ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ).

Metasoma. First tergite 1.4 × as long as apical width, with median united carina and lateral crenulated grooves ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); medial length of second tergite 1.2 × than third; second and third sutures wide, crenulate; second tergite largely striate; third and fourth tergites with dense divergent striae; fifth tergite smooth ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); ovipositor sheath with long setae ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); ovipositor deeply depressed and formed into four arch-like sections ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ).

Colour. Scapus and antennae black; palpi yellow; head yellow, except frons medially, vertex, temple and stemmaticum black ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ). Middle and lateral lobes of mesoscutum black; mesosternum black. Fore and middle legs yellow; hind leg black entirely. Fore wing vein yellow two third basally, black one third apically ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); pterostigma yellow entirely; basal two third of hind wing yellow ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ), apical one third black. Metasomal tergites black, sternites white to ivory; ovipositor sheath black; ovipositor yellow, brownish yellow in arch-like sections ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ).

Male. Unknown.

Biology. Unknown.

Material. Holotype, female ( VNMN), ‘Bracn.1293’, [NW Vietnam:] Son La, Phu Yen, mango orchard, N21°13’07.9” E104°32’39.7”, 350m, sweep net, 18.vi.2015, KD Long.

Distribution. Northwest Vietnam (Son La).

Remarks. Zaglyptogastra vietnamica sp. n. is more or less abberant as it differs from known Zaglyptogastra species by having a distinct mediobasal area ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ).

The new species appears to be close to Z. aswada from Indonesia (Sumatra) in having the base of the hind wing evenly setose, with only a small glabrous area close to vein cu-a ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ), and the setae of the ovipositor sheath long ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ). It differs principally in colouration: frons medially, stemmaticum and vertex black ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ); head (excluding frons, stemmaticum and vertex) yellow; middle and lateral lobes of mesoscutum and mesosternum black; fore and middle legs yellow; hind leg black entirely; metasomal tergites black, sternites white to ivory; ovipositor sheath black; ovipositor yellow, brownish yellow in arch-like sections ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 2 – 13 ).

Zaglyptogastra vietnamica sp. n. differs from Z. vitalisi from Laos, in having the fourth metasomal tergite striate, and the fifth tergite smooth (both tergites are rugose in vitalisi ); setae on ovipositor sheath long (short in vitalisi ); propodeum sparsely setose antero-medially (densely setose in vitalisi ). Zaglyptogastra vietnamica sp. n. differs from Z. aswada El-Heneidy & Quicke, 2007 , from Indonesia, in having a shorter pterostigma, 3.8 × longer than wide (4.2 × in aswada ); base of hind wing with a small glabrous area close to vein cu-a (larger and distal from vein cu-a in aswada ); ovipositor sheath hairs long (short in aswada ); frons and vertex black (yellow to rufous in aswada ).
