Diagnosis
Omorgus loxus is similar in appearance to O. badeni and O. borrei . These three species may be separated by the differences on the elytra. Omorgus loxus have distinct pilose tubercles, whereas O. borrei have glabrous black tubercles and O. badeni have black lustrous patches. Furthermore, O. loxus have the outer margin of the mesotibiae smooth, whereas the other two species have it serrate. For a more detailed treatment of the species, see Vaurie (1962) and Scholtz (1990).
Geographic distribution
Omorgus loxus occurs in southeastern Mexico, Central America and parts of South America (French Guiana, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay). It is thought to have a continuous distribution throughout its range. In Brazil, it has recorded in the Cerrado (GO, MG, MS and TO) and Atlantic Forest (ES, SC, SP) biomes ( Figure 9 View Figure 9 ). For a more detailed discussion on the distribution of this species see Vaurie (1955, 1962)), Scholtz (1990) and Hielkema and Hielkema (2019).
