Generally brightly colored. Crown usually with yellow, red or orange patches. Pronotum with 5 large patches on central and lateral margin. Forewings with numerous scattered brown or orange spots varying inter- and intraspecifically in number and arrangement; clavus of most species with orange patches at base, middle and apex respectively; 3rd apical cell with distinct circular patch.
Face convex. Head conically produced medially with coronal suture prominent. Crown with middle length shorter than width of eyes in most species. Pronotum apparently wider than head. Scutellar suture prominent. Forewing usually narrow; 2nd apical cell biggest; 3rd apical cell triangular and petiolate at base. Hind wing with submarginal vein joining CuAnear MP”.
Abdominal apodemes well developed, often surpassing 4th abdominal sternite.
Male genitalia: Pygofer side tall with well developed process arising on caudoventral angle and directed dorsad, few microsetae on disc. Subgenital plate long, enlarged subapically, sharply narrowed apically and more or less surpassing pygofer side; 1–2 long macrosetae present subbasally or row of macrosetae getting shorter from subbase to subapex, few rigid microsetae on apical half. Paramere slender with microsetae scattered near midlength; caudal part with subapical protrusion heel-like and with row of microsetae on outer margin and row of sensory pits along inner margin. Connective small with central ridge short and underdeveloped, lateral arms short, central lobe present or not.Aedeagus with shaft usually slender and curved dorsad, with or without processes; preatrium well developed; gonopore apical or preapical.
Distribution: Oriental, Palaearctic and Australian Regions.
