Redescription. MALE (10 specimens, Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 16 View FIGURE 16 C–E, 20). Body, including gnathosoma and opisthosomal lobes, 600–630 long and 390–420 wide. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield about 160 long and 100 wide. Hysteronotal shield about 280 long, 140 wide at level of setae d1 and 180 wide at level of setae f2 bases. Minimal distance between shields about 60. Dorsal striae thickened and slightly sclerotized. Posterior pair of genital papillae located distinctly outside anterior pair. Aedeagus 33–36 long; sheath of aedeagus present, subequal to aedeagus in length. Diameter of adanal suckers about 30. Adanal shields fused or narrowly separated anteriorly, about 140 long. Terminal cleft about 70 long. Opisthosomal lobes about 60 wide at base. Apical membrane of opisthosomal lobes absent. Maximum distance between lobes about 30. Lengths of setae: si 70–75, se 260–280, c2 280–300, cp 270–295, c3 300–330, d2 80–100, e2 180–210, f2 320–340, h2 and h3 450–480, ps1 340–360, ps2 310–320, ps3 45–60, 1 a 80–90, 3 a 250– 270, 4 a 80–90, 4 b 330–360, and g 10–12. Distances between setal bases (approximate): c1-c1 120, c2-c2 240, d1-d1 100, d2-d2 150, e1-e1 110, e2-e2 180, and 4b-4b 80. Distances between levels of seta bases (approximate): c1-d1 60 and e1- e2 70. Legs III about 440 long; legs IV about 330 long. Tarsi III and IV about 120 and 100 long, respectively. Lengths of solenidia and setae: ω 1 I 50–55, ω1 II 23–25, ω3 47–50, φ I 95 –100, φ II 115–120, φ III 110–115, φ IV 70 – 75, σ 1 I 80–83, σ 2 I 3–4, σ II 12–14, σ III 80 –90, sR III 260–280, kT III 110–120, and kT IV 70 –80.

FEMALE (10 specimens, Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 , 16 View FIGURE 16 F,G, 20). Body, including gnathosoma, 440–470 long and 300–320 wide. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield about 140 long and 100 wide. Hysteronotal shield absent. Dorsal striae thickened and slightly sclerotized. Epigynum about 100 long. Bursa copulatrix strongly elongated, 7–8 times longer than wide. Lengths of setae: si 45–50, se 260–290, c2 200–220, cp 220–240, c3 190–210, d2 55–70, e2 110–120, f2 60– 70, h2 and h3 270–310, ps1, ps2, and ps3 45–50, 1 a 85–90, 3 a 60–70, 4 a 100–110, 4 b 80–85, and g 70–80. Distances between setal bases (approximate): c1-c1 110, c2-c2 200, d1-d1 60, d2-d2 140, e1- e1 80, e2-e2 150, and 4b-4b 90. Distances between levels of seta bases (approximate): c1-d1 45 and e1- e2 60. Legs III and IV about 220 long. Tarsi III and IV 70 –80 long. Lengths of solenidia and setae: ω 1 I 40–42, ω1 II 20–22, ω3 37–38, φ I 68 –70, φ II 72 –75, φ III 110–115, φ IV 20–21, σ 1 I 50–55, σ 2 I 2–3, σ II 8–10, σ III 40 –42, sR III 130–140, kT III and kT IV 55 –60.

Non-type material examined. 6 males and 1 female ( MRAC 147.866) from Nigrita canicapillus (Strickland) ( Passeriformes : Estrildidae ), CAMEROON: Centre region, Yaounde, 3°52'N, 11°31'E, 1955, coll. J. Mouchet; 1 male ( MRAC 150.304) same data; 4 males and 1 female ( MRAC 159.566) same data; 14 males, 10 females and 2 tritonymphs ( MRAC 188.240-246) same data; 1 male and 2 females ( MRAC 188.238) same host, D.R. of the CONGO: Latumbe, 8 January 1958, coll. G.E. Johnson.

Hosts and distribution. This species was originally described from Nigrita canicapillus (type host) from D.R. of the Congo and Cameroon ( Bonnet 1924; Gaud 1968) and from Nigrita bicolor (Hartlaub) in French Congo (probably D.R. of the Congo) ( Bonnet 1924).
