Pycnoclavella communis Pérez-Portela et al., 2007 View in CoL
P. communis is widely distributed in the western Mediterranean , and has also been recorded from Madeira and the Canary Islands ( Atlantic ). In this survey we found that P. communis is also common and relatively abundant along the coast of Portugal. Both yellow and white colonies were observed and collected from Ilha do Martinhal and Pta Atalaia ( São Viçente Cap , southern Portugal) in June 2008, Armação de Pêra (Algarve, southern Portugal) in September 2009 and Sesimbra and Berlengas Islands (central Portugal) in August 2009 ( Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 ). The specimens conformed in all respects to morphological characters of the species ( Pérez-Portela et al. 2007a). Only colonies collected during August and September showed larvae in the peribranchial cavity .
