Messatoporus opacus Santos 2013

( Figs 15–16 View FIGURES 15–16 )

Messatoporus opacus Santos, 2013 in Santos & Aguiar (2013:161). Holotype ♀ at UFES (examined).

Variation (Female). Fore wing 6.50–8.50 mm long. Antenna with 24–28 flagellomeres. Other than that, the studied female specimens show little new variation relative to the type material: the dark areas on the mesosoma are generally lighter and mixed with some orange or brown, and the metapleuron is more uniformly orange or brown.

Male ( Figs 15–16 View FIGURES 15–16 ). Generally similar to female, differing mostly due to typical secondary sexual differences, namely white band of antennae mostly on f11–19, taking also tip of f10; orbital band clearly interrupted dorso-posteriorly; mesosoma with dark areas generally much darker and less variegated with brown and orange than in the corresponding females, therefore more similar to the females of the type material; postscutellum entirely dark brown; T2–8 with narrow apical yellow stripes. Fore wing 8.00 mm (vs. 6.50–8.50); antennae with 28 flagellomeres.

Comments. Previously known from five females.

Biology. Reared from a few nests of Auplopus subaurarius ( Pompilidae ), from where emerged, predominantly, specimens of M. bisignatus sp. nov.
