scientific name

Limnomya Rondani, 1861e: 11
status

288. Limnomya Rondani, 1861e: 11 .

TYPE SPECIES: Limnobia pictipennis Meigen, 1818 , automatic [by designation of the same species (by subsequent designation of Westwood, 1840: 128) for Limnophila Macquart, 1834 ].

CURRENT STATUS: Unnecessary new replacement name for Limnophila Macquart, 1834 ; junior synonym of Limnophila Macquart, 1834 [ teste Savchenko et al. (1992: 222) ].

FAMILY: LIMONIIDAE .

REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 11) proposed the new replacement name Limnomya thinking that the name Limnophila Macquart, 1834 was preoccupied in botany. There are two original spellings of this name in Rondani (1861e): Limnomya (page 11) and Lymnophila (page 168). Acting as First Reviser, we select Limnomya as the correct original spelling, which relegates Lymnophila (q. v.) to unavailable name status.
