ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Exoprosopa audouinii Macquart, 1840 (as “ Andouinii ”); Exoprosopa servillei Macquart, 1840 ; Anthrax cerberus Fabricius, 1794 ; Exoprosopa albicincta Macquart, 1840 ; Anthrax erythrocephala Fabricius, 1805 (as “ Erithrocephala ” on page 57); Exoprosopa guerinii Macquart, 1846 ; Exoprosopa pilatei Macquart, 1846 ; Exoprosopa fuscipennis Macquart, 1848 (as “ Fascipennis ”), Exoprosopa hymalajensis Macquart, 1840 (as “ Hymalajensis ”); Exoprosopa coeruleiventris Macquart, 1846 ; Exoprosopa albiventris Macquart, 1848 ; Exoprosopa surinamensis Rondani, 1863 ; Exoprosopa chilensis Rondani, 1863 .

TYPE SPECIES: Anthrax erythrocephala Fabricius, 1805 , by subsequent designation ( Dallas, 1866: 649).

CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Evenhuis & Greathead (1999: 399) ].

FAMILY: BOMBYLIIDAE .

REMARKS: Originally proposed as a subgenus of Exoprosopa Macquart, 1840 . The species-group name “ hymalajensis ” was originally included (on page 57) but was never described, so is unavailable. Costa (1866: 37) listed a “ Hyperalonia hymalajensis Macquart ” among the Rondani collection in Naples, so a specimen existed at one time with this determination label.
