Type:— Brazil “ Secus Rio Negro Brasiliae borealis inter Barcellos et São Gabriel ”, December 1851, R. Spruce 2014 (lectotype:K00537024!, designated here; isolectotypes: B† [photograph F17259!], BM001008256!, BR0000005630226!, C10014573!, E00285795!, G-DC00328215!, GH00072305 !, K000537025!, LD1224630 !, M0165435!, MG019682 !, NY00228618 !, P01818654!, P01818655!) .

Triana (1871) used the collection Spruce 2014 to describe H. angustifolia , although there is no mention to the herbarium where the material was deposited. Duplicates of this collection exist at BM, BR, C, E, F, G, GH, K, LD, M, MG, NY, and P. The specimen K000537024 was selected as lectotype, because it was the most representative taking into account the original description, showing well-conserved vegetative and reproductive structures and bearing Triana’s own signature confirming the species identification.
