Luederwaldtia rubripennis Schmidt View in CoL
Luederwaldtia rubripennis Schmidt, 1922: 262 View in CoL . Syntypes: 3 males and 3 females examined in the Natural History Museum, London.
Mahanarva (Mahanarva) rubripennis ( Schmidt, 1922) View in CoL ; Fennah (1968) Mahanarva (Ipiranga) rubripennis ( Schmidt, 1922) View in CoL comb. nov.
Diagnosis. Head black, vertex rectangular and smooth, postclypeus inflated and convex in profile, with one low longitudinal carina; thorax, legs and abdomen dark black; tegmina sanguineous red, with apical cells on apical plexus of vein black.
Remarks. Mahanarva (Mahanarva) rubripennis is transferred to the subgenus Ipiranga because this species has the same tegminal proportion as the species of Ipiranga , the postclypeus is convex and not angulated as in Mahanarva (Mahanarva) , and the rostrum is short, not reaching the mesocoxae. In addition, the shape of the genitalia is closer to the species included in Ipiranga than to those included in Mahanarva . A cladistic analysis of Kanaima by Paladini et al. (2008) showed that Mahanarva (Ipiranga) rubripennis is nested inside the clade of Ipiranga , consistent with this classification.
Distribution. BRAZIL: Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul.
