Tedania (Tedaniopsis) charcoti Topsent, 1907
( Figure 8f View FIGURE 8 )
Restricted synonymy: Tedania charcoti Topsent, 1907 .
Material examined: 1 specimen collected in station 4 ( SOI; 60°55' S, 44°04'W; 256 m; 2/3/2014; MACN-In 44398) GoogleMaps .
Description: Massive sponge, red/brownish ( Figure 8f View FIGURE 8 ). Surface uneven and porous. Spicules are styles 380– 530 µm by 20 µm, anisotornotes of 220–300 µm by 5 µm and onychaetes of 105–285 µm.
Remarks: This is a common species, widely distributed in Antarctic and sub Antarctic waters (e.g. Desqueyroux-Faúndez 1989; Ríos et al. 2004; Goodwin et al. 2019; Schejter et al. 2006, Bertolino et al. 2007; Fernández et al. 2021). See Ríos (2006) for a complete description. It was previously recorded from the SOI by Burton (1940).
