Ecology. – Neohydrocoptus subvittulus living in shallow, muddy water of open or semi-shaded freshwater swamps, ponds and irrigation ditches. The habitat must be rich in rotten leaves and dense submerged vegetation. The species is also attracted by light.

Remarks. – The genus is in need of a comprehensive revision. Our determination is based on the study of identified specimens deposited in DEI. Some of the larger specimens collected at Nee Soon may belong to another species. Neohydrocoptus subvittulus is recorded from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia: Sumatra, Java ( Vazirani, 1977). The species has not yet been recorded from Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore!
