Previous records from Panama. Haig (1957, 1960).
Distribution. East Pacific: Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama (Coiba Is., Secas Is., Jicarita I., Las Perlas Is., Amador Causeway near Ciudad de Panamá), Colombia, Ecuador and Peru ( Haig 1960, 1968; García-Madrigal & Andréu- Sánchez 2009; Moscoso 2012; present study).
Ecology. Intertidal and shallow subtidal, known depth range: 0–7 m; under rocks, in crevices of rocks and corals, sometimes associated with hermit crabs, Aniculus elegans Stimpson ( Haig 1960; García-Madrigal & Andréu- Sánchez 2009; Moscoso 2012).
Remarks. In all Panamanian specimens of P. ortmanni ( Fig. 68 View FIGURE 68 ), the carapace and P1 varies from pale brownish to yellowish, whereas the P2–P4 are always darker brown. In some younger individuals from Colombia, the P1 are paler and speckled with dark spots ( Ferreira et al. 2020). The specimen illustrated by García-Madrigal & Andréu- Sánchez (2009) was photographed either post-mortem or shortly after preservation and lost most of its original colours.
