Chromosome set of the species is 2n = 8. Two metacentric chromosomes (AB and CD), one submetacentric—EF and one telocentric chromosome—G. The centromere regions of the chromosomes are characterised by distinct dark bands ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ). In the Bulgarian populations, the band sequences in arm A are in homozygous inverted sequences A2.2 ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ), and there is a heterozygous inversion in the arm D–D1.2. Chromosome G is very small and has one NOR and one BR, located at both ends of the chromosome. The dark band between them is a species marker ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ). Eight individuals were studied.
