Sakaila imperialis ( Sakai, 1963) View in CoL
This species was originally described based on a single specimen, the holotype female, collected from "Okino-yama, off Misaki, 80 m deep, coll. by His Majesty" [Emperor Hirohito] ( Sakai, 1963: 223). The holotype female is extant and is deposited at the Showa Memorial Institute (National Science Museum), Tsukuba City. A photograph of the holotype ( Fig. 7) was provided by Dr. Hiroshi Namikawa of the Showa Memorial Institute. A second specimen from a depth of 85 m (CL 19 mm, CW 15 mm) was later mentioned by Sakai in his monograph ( Sakai, 1976: 290). A second specimen at the Showa Institute is presumably the smaller specimen mentioned by Sakai (1976).
