( Figs. 31A–C View FIGURES 31 A – C )
Type series. Holotype female, Kipungit River, Poring Hot Springs, Mt Kinabalu, 6º 0 2.776 N 116º 41.432 E, alt. 568 m asl, 15-ix-2012 ( RMNH). Paratype: one female, Great Lumotok stream, Sayap, Mt Kinabalu, Borneo, Malaysia, 6º 0 9. 336 N 116º 34.056 E, alt. 1087 m asl, 17-ix-2012 ( RMNH).
Diagnosis. Eyes absent; palp long and slender, idiosoma very rugose, first coxae long and slender.
Description. Female: Colour pale yellow, idiosoma rugose 413 (413) long dorsally and 304 (308) wide, ventrally 429 (437) long. Dorsal shield with four pairs of glandularia, one pair flanking the excretory pore (and not visible in dorsal view) which is fused with the dorsal shield; dorsal shield broadly fused with ventral shield. Eyes absent; in anterior part of dorsal part a less rugose area. Dorsal furrow posteriorly with two pairs of small glandularia platelets. Anterior coxae long, extending beyond anterior idiosoma margin. Suture lines of coxae obliterated. Between fourth leg sockets and genital field a pair of small glandularia. Cxgl-4 fused with ventral shield. Genital field with four pairs of acetabula, the posterior pair elongated. Length/height of P1-P5: 33/20, 58/ 46, 32/31, 118/24, 30/14; P4 very long, with two thin ventral setae (of one, only the socket visible, not given in Fig. 31 C View FIGURES 31 A – C ). Length of I-leg-4-6: 42, 50, 42. Length of IV-leg-4–6: 60, 64, 40; IV-leg-5 with two rudimentary swimming setae, IV-leg-4 with one rudimentary swimming seta.
Male: Unknown.
Etymology. Named for the rough idiosoma.
Remarks. Axonopsis gracilipalpis K. Viets, 1935 from Java has a long palp, however, not as slender as in the new species. Moreover, this species has well developed lateral eyes and all acetabula rounded. A further species with long and slender palp, A. longipalpis Imamura, 1956 from Japan, differs in the presence of lateral eyes and the shape of the anterior idiosoma margin which is drawn out into four large extensions. Axonopsis indica Cook, 1967 has narrow first coxae also but has a less slender palp.
Distribution. Borneo.
