Aguana Melichar, 1926: 280 View in CoL . Type-species: Tettigonia imbricata Signoret, 1854: 719 View in CoL , by original designation and monotypy.
Diagnosis. (1) Body robust; (2) anterior margin of head broadly rounded; (3) frons, in anterior view, with slight concavity on superior portion; (4) antennal ledge, in frontal view, protuberant, oblique, and carinate externally; (5) frontogenal suture extending onto crown and attaining ocellus; (6) pronotum with pair of broad shallow depressions on anterior half; (7) forewing with appendix narrow and short, restricted to outer border of first apical cell and part of second apical cell, (8) apical cells short, and (9) extra crossveins may be present in anteapical cells, costal apical cell, and clavus; (10) hind wing with vein R2+3 incomplete; (11) first valvifer of female (unknown in A. russata ) with basiventral spiniform process.
Remarks. The following features mentioned by Young (1977) cannot be regarded as diagnostic for Aguana : (1) style without a preapical lobe, which does not apply to the two new species described here; (2) aedeagus with a pair of apical processes ( A. picinguaba sp. nov. has no processes and they are very small in A. spitzi sp. nov.); (3) hind wing with vein R2+3 complete (in all specimens examined here this vein is incomplete).
