Remarks. This is a characteristic species of northeastern Atlantic continental shelf from the White Sea ( Nekhaev 2013) to the Strait of Gibraltar (absent from Baltic and eastern basin of English Channel), south to the Alborán Sea, rare and rather local in the remainder of the Mediterranean ( Gofas & Warén 1982). In the northern part of its range, it may be found intertidally, whereas it is usually found in circalittoral bottoms in the Mediterranean. Few shells were recorded on Gorringe and Ampère seamounts ( Gofas 2007). Two of the shells studied, adult and juvenile, are shown in Figure 5 a–b View FIGURE 5 , and a detail of the microsculpture can be seen in Figure 5d View FIGURE 5 . The protoconch in the studied shells was eroded ( Fig. 5c View FIGURE 5 ).
Shells with soft parts were only found in one of the studied sampled collected at 150 m in muddy sand bottom.
