Hosts. Poaceae : Agrostis “ alba L.” [= stolonifera L.?], Bromus tectorum L., Calamagrostis * canadensis (Michx.) P. Beauv. , * Cinna arundinacea L., Elymus * canadensis L. , E. glaucus Buckley , E. repens (L.) Gould, Hordeum vulgare L., Pascopyrum smithii (Rydb.) Á. Löve , Phalaris arundinacea L., Phleum pratense L., Setaria pumila (Poir.) Roem. & Schult. , Triticum aestivum L., Zea mays L., Zizania aquatica L. ( Frick 1959; Spencer 1969). Since Juncus tenuis Willd. (Juncaceae) would represent a new host family for Cerodontha incisa , we have chosen not to list it among the confirmed hosts until males can be reared from this plant.
Leaf mine. ( Fig. 131 View FIGURES 124–132 ) A whitish, sometimes inflated, upper surface blotch, with up to four larvae feeding together. Frass is in scattered black grains.
Puparium. ( Fig. 28 View FIGURE 22–29 ) Elongate, black, iridescent; formed within the mine.
Distribution. Widespread in the northern half of the US and in Canada, south at least to OK and NC; Europe; Pakistan; Japan (Nowakowski, 1973).
