Cinnamomum weddellii Doweld View in CoL , nom. nov.
≡ Cinnamomum orbiculatum Lukmanoff (1878: 6) View in CoL , nom. illeg., non Saporta (in Heer 1861: 168).
Holotype:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais, Weddell s.n. ( P, n.v.).
Eponymy:—In honour of H. A. Weddell, collector of the type specimen.
Note:— Cinnamomum orbiculatum Lukmanoff is a doubtful name, which has never been cited in the literature. However, it is a later homonym of the fossil-species Cinnamomum orbiculatum .
The fossil-species was based on the fossil leaves from the Miocene sediments of La Pomme near Marseille, France; it is lectotypified here: [leaf], Saporta coll. (Muséum National d’histoire naturelle, Paris, France, MNHN. F.13731) ( fig. 1).
For the date of Lukmanoff’s publication, see above.
