Gol ®ngia ( Gol ®ngia) vulgaris vulgaris (de Blainville, 1827)
Material. Sanya Bay , 22 March 1992, one specimen .
Description. Trunk 22 mm long and 4 mm wide. Introvert shorter (11 mm) than the trunk. Conspicuous papillae on both ends of the trunk, smaller in the mid trunk. Scattered hooks are spine-like, 150 m m in height (®gure 2d). Four retractor muscles. Nephridiopores at the level of the anus or a little in front of it.
Discussion. Our specimen is small in comparison to the sizes reported in the literature (with a maximum of up to 200 mm). The presence of scattered hooks and the more wrinkled ends of the trunk are diagnostic for the species.
The species is common in the north-eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean, Indian and Western Paci®c oceans. Gol W ngia ( Gol W ngia) vulgaris vulgaris had not been recorded previously from Hainan Island nor from the surrounding waters. Therefore, it represents the ®rst record for the area investigated. The species occurs both on soft and hard bottoms, including all kinds of sands, being eurybathic and euryhaline.
