Notolaelaps Womersley, 1957: 67 . Type species Notolaelaps novaguinea Womersley, 1957 , by original designation and monotypy.
Diagnosis. Small laelapine mites. Dorsal shield with 37 pairs of setae. Paired px setae and ax setae absent, unpaired setae absent. Genito-ventral shield well-developed, extending to within 21 μm or less of anal shield; bearing three pairs of setae and six or more strongly transverse, serially-regular striae. Tibia I with four ventral setae; genu IV with nine setae including one proximally-positioned pl seta. Many leg setae, both ventral and dorsal, bear sparse barbs. Pair of dorsodistal palp tibia setae with acuminate tips. Apicolateral setae on tarsus I (d setae of Radovsky, 1967) without pedicillate basal collars. Anterior setae of coxa II and III modified as thickened blunt spurs. Pretarsal opercula reduced fringes bearing only ca. three tines. Anal opening surrounded by weakly sclerotised zone extending to para-anal setae. Male chelicera with movable digit fused with spermadactyl for most of its length. Protonymph with eight setae on the pygidial shield.
