Thallus mucilaginous, red purple or pink, 8–12 cm in length, with cylindrical axes in cross section, 590–760 μm in diameter. Main axes branching dichotomously or irregularly; branches covered by short laterals of rounded apices and smooth margins ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 6–16. 6 ). On the surface of the axes are observed polygonal cells, 35–50 μm in diameter, with thickened walls, each with two “cherry bodies” (one at each pole) opposite ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 6–16. 6 ). Polysiphonous organization, with four pericentral cells, 70–90 μm in diameter, larger than the medullary cells ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 17–27. 17 ). Medulla with 3–4 layers of rounded cells, 30–60 μm in diameter. Cortex with one layer of anticlinal cells, 3.4–5.8 μm in diameter ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 17–27. 17 ).
